Timing matters with tree trimming. Here’s the Long Island guide from Sanchez Landscaping in Bay Shore.

Late Winter / Early Spring (Best)

February through March — before new growth begins — is the ideal window for most deciduous trees. The tree is dormant, wounds close quickly, and you can see the structure clearly.

Summer (Light Pruning OK)

Dead branch removal and light shaping can be done any time. Avoid heavy cuts on stressed trees in summer heat.

Fall (Avoid Major Cuts)

Don’t do significant pruning in fall. Wounds don’t heal well before winter and fungi spread more aggressively on fresh fall cuts.
